Neuro Linguistic Programming Report
(NLP)
Day 2.
Creating Rapport.
In all jobs/tasks there comes a time when you
have to convince someone else of your opinion. It could be your
boss, your partner or customer. But did you know that what you
say only accounts for 7% of your communication and that body
language and tone make up for the rest? If you could increase
your effectiveness by only 1% and that 1% was passed on through
all the personal communication you had, just think what you
could achieve.
Learn to recognize opportunities and practice
exercises that allow you to gain powerful rapport with other
people.
We’re often told:
“Step into their shoes”
“Think what they’re thinking”
“Want what they want”
But what does this really mean?
Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest negotiators
that ever lived, often became the person he was negotiating
with. His friends often saw him when planning for a meeting
moving like his adversary, speaking with the same accent and
literally seeing the world through their eyes. This gave him
an incredible insight into what this person felt like and more
importantly what they would do next.
So the next time you have to deal with a complex issue with
someone, try this exercise out.
Find an area where you cannot be disturbed or seen. Think vividly
of the person you are dealing with. First take on their posture.
How do they stand? Are they upright, stooped etc? Next take
on their voice as much as you can, get inside the person and
see through their eyes. What are their surroundings like? Does
this person wear a type of expression? If so copy that. Take
time to get into the role.
Now take this person into the place where you want to understand
their reaction. It could be the time when you place your proposal
in front of them. See yourself through the eyes of your customer
putting down that proposal. As your customer, how does it make
you/them feel? How could it be done better, what do you as your
customer want to hear. Submerge yourself in the role and you
will achieve incredible results.
This is an especially powerful technique when you think that
you know everything that there is concerning a particular event!
