Step 2: Aligning
your values
In the first module we showed
you how to define your life plan. We now explore what might
stop you from reaching your life plan.
If you have some post-it notes
great, if not, tear up some paper into small pieces. Write
on each piece one obstacle. Take about five or ten minutes
to think of everything you can.
When you have finished, for
each note ask yourself where is the barrier located? Is it
in you or somebody else? What can you control?
How many obstacles were down
to you? Remember you can choose how you respond to a situation.
If you hear your inner voice saying – ‘I can’t
do that’ – remember you only have to remove the
T and it becomes CAN.
What CAN you do about it now?
`
Next I would like you to make a list of the beliefs you hold
about your life plan. Some beliefs may help you and you need
to keep these, but others may be hindering you and we’d
like you to think about how could can use your own resources
to change these.
Put a cross next to the ones
that are negative and a tick by those that are positive. Now
prioritise them. Take the top 5. Which ones do you want to
keep (+) and which ones do you want to get rid of (-).
For each (-) I want you to think
of a way of re-wording it so it becomes positive.
Eg. I believe in my ability
to succeed. I enjoy meeting challenges.
Put the old belief in the bin and replace it with your positive
belief and think of a time when you actually did this to reinforce
the belief.
Every morning and evening I
want you to think about your life plan and say your positive
affirmations - pin them up somewhere or carry them around
with you.
‘Whatever your mind
can conceive and believe, you can achieve it when you have
the positive mental attitude to apply it.’ Napoleon
Hill.
