Step 5: Keeping it up
We all know that some obstacles
could get in the way and we don’t want you to be disappointed
or dis-heartened. Take a piece of paper and draw a line down
the centre. On the right I want you to list the things that
might stop you and on the left I want you to list all the things
that will help you.
Eg.
Help Hinder
Determination Putting the time

Support from my partner
Think about how you can make sure
that the forces on the left are stronger than the forces on
the right. You deserve to be successful.
Here are some suggestions to help
motivate you along your journey.
Acknowledge your achievements.
Here’s another use for your journal. Your mind can suffer
from temporary amnesia and forget about all the achievements
you’ve made over the last few months.
You’re only human –
we all make mistakes – you forgive friends so why not
yourself? It’s all too easy to beat yourself up. Remember
the words of Albert Einstein - “in the middle of every
difficulty lies opportunity” and give yourself a little
reward when you do hit your targets!
Surround yourself with positive
people. A rainbow is made up of different colours and together
they create a wonderful display but imagine if one was missing.
Why not build yourself a social rainbow. For each of the colours
below put a description next to it of the type of person you
might need at a particular time.
For example, you might need somebody
who is practical to help you sometimes, a person who is good
with concepts and can bring you down to earth with logic at
others, another who can fire you up with enthusiasm for a plan
and somebody who you call a good friend to listen when things
don’t go so well.

With all this support you’re
half way there already!
When you’ve reached your
goal for one segment go back to your ‘wheel’ at
step 3 to see how much it has changed and re-do the exercise
and carry on with steps 4 and 5 for another segment.
Well done. The first step is the
hardest but people with goals succeed because they know where
they are going.
