Day 4
The Immune System.
The reason we have an immune system is so that
the body can recognize its enemies and destroy them. The enemies
not only include foreign bodies such as viruses and bacteria
but also malfunctioning cells.
The way that invaders enter the body are mainly via the lungs
or the digestive system. It is therefore important that both
the respiratory and digestive tracts possess healthy strong
mucous membranes which act as a filter for these “attackers”.
If the gut immune system is not working correctly, and food
is not completely digested, unwanted reactions may occur which
will lead to allergies.
In the case of the respiratory system, the
nasal passages are particularly important for filtering out
foreign bodies which may otherwise cause respiratory problems.
Once foreign bodies have entered the body,
immune cells are produced in the bone marrow and thymus and
sent to the lymph nodes, the tonsils, the appendix and the spleen
to fight off invaders.
In order to boost the immune system so that it can cope with
these constant invasions from outside adequate vitamins and
minerals are needed. The exact amount will be calculated individually
but in general, Vitamins A, B’s, C, and E and Iron, Zinc,
Magnesium and Selenium are required. (These can be taken as
a multi vitamin and mineral to make things easy)
More specific advice and suppliers will be
given in your follow up after the initial personal consultation
has taken place.
Obviously, the types of food we consume and
its quality is hugely important to maintain a healthy immune
system.
If you constantly pick up colds and feel
generally under par then your immune system could be taking
a battering. By making a small investment in yourself one of
our nutritionists would be able to advise you on diet in general
fitting in with your lifestyle as easily as possible.
