What is coaching?

“the art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another.” (Downey, 2003)

A coach recognises your ability to achieve and simply guides you to unlock your potential. You take the responsibility to change your life whilst the coach motivates you and provides you with tools to reach your personal goals by raising your awareness about beliefs and behaviours that have been holding you back.

What it isn’t

Coaching is often confused with counselling and mentoring but there are some distinct differences.

A mentor imparts knowledge or advises whilst in coaching you are facilitated to come to a solution. In coaching we recognise that you have to be committed to take forward an action and, for this to work, you must own the answer.

A counsellor focuses on the past to increase your understanding of how you have got to where you are now. Coaching focuses on the future and encourages you to take action so you can reach your goal step-by-step and move on to better and greater things.
